Children’s party’s took up most of the day yesterday followed by watching the Seasiders loose out to the Hammers (boooo). So today The Good Wench was on a mission to at least get out and bag a few. After a bit of argee bargee we decide on Cockerham and do the Chick series (GC3CPM6). A nice short circular around the Black Nights Parachute Club… which on a Sunday is in full swing!
Before that though just a recap on the rest of the week. We managed to grab our first 5/5 this week so a little milestone crossed off the list for us. We ventured out to get The Magna Defenders ‘Two Tunnel Adventure’ cache. The cache is located under the M6 in a tunnel. Access is straight forward – you either wade or crawl through the tunnel space until you reach roughly the middle and then start searching. Not as easy as it sounds in the dark with no GPS signal! Still we got it and a few others in the area so a pat on the back for us!
As for today it was a lesson in planning. We parked up at the local village hall and set off to follow the series in numerical order. We knew in advance a couple of the caches were not live (including the first one) so we didn’t waste too much time looking for them. The containers are all themed appropriately and easy enough to retrieve. The route takes you round an airstrip used by a local parachute club and on a Sunday they are out in force. We spent more time stood watching the jumpers than we did walking! The pilot is a nutter – he makes vertical drops to land the plane on the small runway and at one point The Good Wench screamed as she thought he was crashing!
Halfway round the circuit we had a close encounter of the bovine kind! All the cows are fenced in (thank goodness) but we have never before witnessed such curiosity from them. As soon as we approached they all lined up in an orderly fashion against the fence to watch what we were doing. They normally shy away but this lot looked like they would have followed us around all day! The Good Wench was like some sort of Pied-Piper… but for cattle… not sure what aftershave she was wearing today though J.
All in all a good little walk in some nice open fields with some great views… and on a Sunday you get treated to a great aerial display as well, can’t be bad.
